The
2016 Mazda CX-5 Concepts receives freshened front- and rear-end styling.
Inside, a new dash and center console are home to an electronic parking brake,
while Touring and Grand Touring trims receive a new audio unit with a 7-inch
touchscreen and Mazda Connect infotainment. Bluetooth is made standard across
the line, and new options include LED headlights, adaptive cruise control and
lane-departure warning. Improvements have also been made to the car's
suspension and front seats, with more sound insulation resulting in a 10
percent reduction in interior sound levels at highway speeds.
The
2016 CX-5 is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 155
horsepower. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, and a six-speed automatic
is available. Touring and Grand Touring trims come with a 2.5-liter
four-cylinder engine that produces 184 horsepower and is mated with the
six-speed automatic transmission. The EPA estimates that the base CX-5 gets up
to 26/35 mpg city/highway, which is excellent for the class.
Reviewers
praise the 2016 Mazda CX-5 for its nimble handling, which some say is similar
to that of a sports car. They add that the CX-5's steering is quick and offers
good feedback, and that its brakes are strong. Front-wheel drive is standard on
the CX-5 and all-wheel drive is available.
